The history of the Chevrolet Equinox started more than 10 years ago when Chevrolet (a division of the legendary American automaker, General Motors) introduced a new series of mid-size crossover SUVs. The Equinox is the first crossover SUV produced by Chevrolet. It is based on the General Motors Theta unibody platform and was manufactured in two generations.
The first Chevrolet Equinox was presented in 2004 and it came with a 5-speed or 6-speed automatic transmission and two engine options, a 3.4 L LNJ V6 (gasoline) and a 3.6 L LY7 V6 (gasoline) engine. In 2008, Chevrolet presented a new sportier version called Equinox Sport. Another new model, the Equinox LTZ, was released as well and was available with 17-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, bright chrome door handles, and some interior improvements.
The second generation was launched in 2010. This generation is created on a stiffened version of the same "Theta" platform. The new Equinox comes with an improved gasoline direct injection engine for superior fuel economy. The second generation also features a 6-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel-drive system. Although, an all-wheel-drive is an optional system as well. In 2016, there would be three trim levels, the L, LS, and LTZ. They feature 17 and 18-inch wheels, four new color palates, and Chevrolet’s MyLink System.
