MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE

In 1989, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi started producing a new series of sport compact cars called the Eclipse. Since its creation, the Mitsubishi Eclipse was manufactured in four generations. The first Eclipse was released as a 1990 model. The first generation (1990–1994) was called "1G" and was based on the Chrysler D platform. The Eclipse models from this generation were designed as a 2-door coupe and featured a 97.2-inch wheelbase. The Mitsubishi Eclipse also came with four engine options and a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

The second-generation started in 1995. It was built on the Chrysler PJ platform and featured a longer wheelbase. The 2-door coupe model remained but in 1996, a new 2-door convertible version was presented. The Eclipse was also equipped with three engine options: a 2.0L 140 hp (100 kW) I4, 2.4L 141 hp (105 kW) I4, and 2.0L 210 hp (160 kW) turbo I4 engine. This generation included seven trim levels.

The third-generation (2000–2005) was based on the Chrysler ST-22 platform and featured an FF layout. The wheelbase was slightly increased again. The 3G Eclipse was also available with a modified suspension setup for a softer and more convenient driving experience. The fourth-generation was launched in 2006. It was built on the new Mitsubishi PS platform and had a slightly larger wheelbase. The 4G Eclipse came with a 2.4L 162 hp (121 kW) I4 or a 3.8L 263 hp (196 kW) V6 engine. Four transmission types were provided as well. The fourth-generation was the last generation for Mitsubishi Eclipse as it was discontinued in 2012.
