NISSAN MAXIMA

In 1981, the Japanese automaker Nissan has introduced a new series of mid-size cars, named "Maxima". The Maxima was created as a replacement of the Datsun 810 model. Nissan Maxima was manufactured in eight generations.

The first generation (1981–1984) featured front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and came in two body styles: 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon. The first Maximas were equipped with 2.4 L L24E I6 or 2.8 L LD28 I6 diesel engines. Two transmission types were provided as well – 5-speed manual and 4-speed Jatco L4N71B automatic transmission. The second generation started in 1984. It featured 100 in. wheelbase and new engine options.

The third generation (1988–1994) came with a refreshed design, two new 3.0L V6 engines, and independent rear suspension. The wheelbase was slightly increased. The fourth generation was presented in 1994. It featured a lighter and more affordable torsion bar solid axle system as a replacement of the independent rear suspension.

The fifth generation (1999–2003) featured some exterior modifications and a longer, 108.3 in. wheelbase. The sixth generation was released in 2003. It was built on the Nissan FF-L platform and came with even longer, 111.2 in. wheelbase. The Maxima vehicles from this period were equipped with a 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 engine and 6-speed manual or 4/5-speed automatic CVT transmission.

The seventh generation (2008–2014) utilized the Nissan D platform and featured slightly shorter wheelbase (109.3 in.). The Maximas from this generation were provided with an improved 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 engine, and CVT transmission. The eight generation was launched in 2015. This newest generation is available with an athletic body redesign and 5 trim levels: S, SV, SL, SR, and Platinum. Nine exterior color options are offered as well.
